Make an Offer documentation
Make an Offer adds a "Make an offer" button to your product pages. This guide covers setup, rules, answering offers, emails, plans and troubleshooting. Questions: support@kaviolabs.com.
Install and add the button
- Install the app from the Shopify App Store and open it from Apps → Make an Offer.
- On the app's home page click Add button to theme. The theme editor opens on a product page with the Make an offer button block ready to place. Drag it under the Add to cart button and click Save.
- Open a product page in your store: the button is there. In the theme editor the dialog works as a preview and sends nothing.
The button needs an Online Store 2.0 theme (for example Dawn or any other free Shopify theme) whose product section accepts app blocks.
Block settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Button label, style, full width | Text, look (outline, solid, text link) and width of the button |
| Text under the button | A short line such as "Name your price. The store replies by email." |
| Accent colour, text on accent, corner radius | Colours and roundness of the button and the dialog |
| Heading, intro text | Top of the dialog |
| Show suggested offers | 10 %, 15 % and 20 % below the price as quick choices |
| Let shoppers choose a quantity | The quantity stepper (up to the largest quantity in Settings) |
| Ask for a name, allow a message | Optional fields |
| Allow offers on sold-out variants | Off by default |
The button is hidden automatically when offers are switched off, when your plan's monthly offer limit is used, for products and collections whose rule turns offers off, for gift cards, and when a shopper views the store in a currency other than your store currency.
Rules
Open Rules in the app.
- Store rule: Accept at or above (for example 90 %) accepts offers at once and sends the shopper a code. Decline below (for example 60 %) declines low offers at once. Offers in between wait for your answer. Switch either one off to decide yourself. Percentages are of the variant's current price.
- Collection and product rules: click Add collections or Add products, then set percentages or turn offers off. Leave a field empty to use the store rule.
Which rule applies: a product rule beats collection rules, collection rules beat the store rule. If a product is in several collections with rules, the strictest percentages apply, and offers are off if any of those collections turns them off (unless a product rule turns them on). The offer shows which rule applied.
Answering offers
Offers lists every offer with the shopper, the amount, the share of the price and the status. Open one to:
- Accept: the app creates the discount code and emails it with a checkout link.
- Send counter-offer: enter your price (between the offer and the list price) and an optional message. The shopper gets an email with a link to a page in your store where they accept or decline. Accepting creates the code.
- Decline: with an optional message.
Offers that you do not answer expire after the number of days in Settings (3 by default); the same deadline applies to counter-offers.
The discount code
- One code per accepted offer, for example
OFFER-7KX2M9QD. - Valid once, only for that variant, with the quantity of the offer as the minimum quantity, and a fixed amount off (the difference to the list price times the quantity).
- Valid for the hours set in Settings (48 by default). It combines with shipping discounts if you allow it, never with other product or order discounts.
- Codes that expire unused are deleted from your discounts automatically. Used codes stay, so your reports keep them.
- The checkout link is
https://your-store/cart/<variant>:<quantity>?discount=<code>.
Emails
Shoppers get an email when their offer is received, accepted, countered or declined (an offer declined automatically by a rule is answered on screen only). Emails are sent from our mail server with your store's name as the sender name; replies go to your store's contact email. You get a notice when an offer waits for your answer (Settings → Notifications; you can send it to another address).
On the Growth and Pro plans you can change the subject and text of each shopper email under Emails, with
placeholders such as {{customer_name}}, {{product_title}}, {{offer_amount}}, {{counter_amount}},
{{discount_code}} and {{expires_at}}. The product summary, the code and the button are added below your text.
Settings
| Setting | Default |
|---|---|
| Take offers on my store | On |
| Days to answer an offer (and a counter-offer) | 3 |
| Hours a discount code is valid | 48 |
| Offers per shopper and product within 30 days | 3 |
| Largest quantity per offer (1 hides the field) | 10 |
| Show the minimum offer in the form | Off |
| Offer codes combine with shipping discounts | On |
| Email me when an offer needs my answer | On |
Analytics
Analytics shows offers received, acceptance rate (accepted out of accepted, declined and expired), codes used, revenue from offers (agreed price × quantity of used codes), discount given, average offer as a share of the price, offers per day and the most negotiated products. The app does not read your orders: a code counts as used when Shopify reports its use, checked every 30 minutes.
Plans
| Free | Growth | Pro | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Offers per month | 5 | 100 | Unlimited |
| Rules, counter-offers, codes, analytics | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| Custom email texts | ✓ | ✓ | |
| CSV export of offers | ✓ | ✓ |
Every offer a shopper sends counts, including offers your rules decline. When the month's offers are used the button is hidden until the 1st of the next month (UTC) or until you upgrade. Plans are billed by Shopify. Paid plans have a 14-day free trial. Change plans under Plan in the app.
Customer privacy
Offers hold the shopper's email, and the name and message if given. When a customer asks your store for their data, the app prepares a file with their offers under Settings → Customer data requests. Erasure requests delete the customer's offers automatically. See the privacy policy.
Troubleshooting
- The button does not show: check that the block is in the product template and saved, that Take offers on my store is on, the monthly limit (home page), the rules for that product and its collections, and that you view the store in your store currency. Open the app once after install: it publishes the storefront settings then.
- "Offers are not available right now": the app could not reach Shopify for the price; the shopper can retry in a minute.
- A shopper did not get an email: ask them to check spam. On the offer page in the app use Send email again.
- The code does not apply: it works once, for that variant and quantity, until it expires. Check the offer in the app; you can accept a new offer from the same shopper.
Uninstall
Uninstalling removes the block. Our server deletes the access token at once and all offers of your store 48 hours
later (Shopify's shop/redact). Codes already sent stay in your discounts until they expire or you delete them.
