Vehicle Fitment & YMM Search documentation

1. Import your fitment data

Open Vehicle Fitment in your Shopify admin and go to Import & export.

  1. Choose what happens when a product already has fitment:
    • Add the new rows and keep the existing ones (default). Rows that are already there are not duplicated, so you can import the same file again safely.
    • Replace the fitment of the products in this file. Products that are not in the file keep their fitment.
  2. Drop your CSV file (up to 20 MB, up to 300,000 rows per file).
  3. The app reads the file and matches every product in your store. You then see a preview: rows in the file, valid rows, rows with errors (each with its line number and the reason), products, rows that are already there and the number of rows after the import. Nothing has changed yet.
  4. Click Import. Large files continue in the background; you can leave the page.

After the import the app publishes the fitment to your products. Badges and search update within a few minutes.

2. CSV format

The first line holds the column names. Commas, semicolons and tabs all work; save the file as UTF-8.

Column Required Example Notes
product_handle one of the three ceramic-brake-pads The product's handle (the end of its URL)
sku one of the three BP-1042 Any variant's SKU; the fitment applies to the whole product
product_id one of the three 15456340705646 The number in the product's admin URL
year yes* 2018 or 2015-2020 A single year or a range
year_from, year_to yes* 2015, 2020 Instead of year
make yes* Ford
model yes* F-150
submodel no XLT Empty = every submodel
engine no 3.5L V6 Empty = every engine
notes no Front axle Shown in the fitment table and the badge
universal no yes The part fits every vehicle; year, make and model are not needed

* Not needed on rows marked universal.

Download the sample CSV. Names are matched without regard to capital letters: "FORD" in a new file joins the "Ford" you already have.

Common errors

  • No product with product handle "…" in your store: check the handle, or use the SKU column.
  • Year "…" is not valid: use four digits, a single year or a range from 1900 to two years ahead.
  • Missing make or model.

3. Add the search block

On the app's home page, click Add search block. The theme editor opens with the Vehicle search (YMM) block ready to add; click Save. Add it to your collection template as well (Theme editor → Collections → Add block → Apps), so shoppers can change the vehicle on the results page.

Block settings: heading, button text, one row or stacked layout, submodel and engine (shown only when your data has them), My garage on or off, button colors and corner radius.

4. Add the fit badge

Click Add fit badge on the app's home page. The Vehicle fit badge block goes on the product page, best right under the price. It shows:

  • Fits your 2018 Ford F-150 (green), with your note when there is one;
  • Does not fit your … (red), with a link to the parts that fit;
  • May fit your …: choose the submodel and engine to confirm (amber), when the part fits only some versions;
  • Universal fit for parts marked universal;
  • Check if this part fits your vehicle with a vehicle picker, before a vehicle is chosen;
  • the fitment table (can be turned off, or opened by default).

5. How search results work

The app adds tags such as kvf-2018-ford-f-150 to each product, one per year and model it fits, plus kvf-universal for universal parts. Searching for a 2018 Ford F-150 opens /collections/all/kvf-2018-ford-f-150. Your theme shows that collection page as usual. Please don't edit kvf- tags by hand; the app manages them and replaces them on the next update (Settings → Publish all again repairs them).

In Settings you can choose:

  • Show results in this collection: All products (default) or any collection, for example "Brakes".
  • How results are filtered:
    • Collection tag page works with every theme; universal parts are not mixed in.
    • Storefront filter, with universal parts shows the vehicle's parts and universal parts together. Turn on the Tag filter in Shopify's Search & Discovery app first (Search & Discovery → Filters → Add filter → Tag).

A product can carry up to 200 fitment tags (Shopify allows 250 tags per product). For a part that fits more year and model combinations, the newest years are used for search and the app marks the product "Partly searchable"; the product page badge still checks every vehicle. Mark parts that fit almost everything as universal.

6. Edit one product

Go to Products, click a product or Add fitment to a product, and edit its vehicles: year from, year to (empty for a single year), make, model, submodel, engine and notes. Tick This part fits all vehicles for universal parts. Save publishes the change at once.

7. Vehicles

Vehicles lists every make with its years, models and products; click a make to see its models, submodels and engines.

8. Export

Import & export → Prepare export → Download CSV gives every fitment row in the import format (product_handle, product_id, year_from, year_to, make, model, submodel, engine, notes, universal). The download link works for 10 minutes.

9. Daily supplier feed (Pro)

Enter an https:// link to a CSV file in the format above and choose add or replace. The app downloads it every night (around 02:30 UTC), checks it and imports the valid rows. Save and run now starts it at once. The last run and its result are shown under the field.

10. My Garage

Every vehicle a shopper searches for is saved in their browser (local storage) and shown as a chip under the search block; the newest is the active vehicle for the fit badge. Settings → My garage sets how many vehicles are kept (1 to 10). Nothing is sent to our server and no account is needed.

11. Plans and limits

Plan Fitment rows Extras
Free 300 Every storefront feature
Basic 25,000 Email support
Pro 250,000 Daily supplier feed, priority support

A fitment row is one product and one vehicle line; a year range counts once. An import that would go over your limit shows it in the preview and can't be started.

12. Uninstalling

Export your CSV first if you want a copy. Shopify removes the app's blocks from your theme and the app's own fitment metafields. The kvf- product tags stay on your products, so links to your collection pages keep working; to remove them too, use Settings → Delete all fitment before you uninstall. Our server deletes your store's data after the uninstall (see the privacy policy).
